They say pictures speak louder than words, and this picture of a boat adrift sums up my mood today. With Covid-19 running rampant across the world, the outlook feels bleak. People are dying, some who recover have lasting health impacts, businesses are failing with resultant job losses, domestic violence is rising, extra strain is placed on people with mental illness, and everyone seems to be finger-pointing and arguing about how to address the crisis. So yes, society is adrift.
I’d love to offer wise words of wisdom, or an inspirational quote. Tomorrow, I’ll pick myself up, dust myself off, and get on with it. But today is my day to sit with uncertainty and acknowledge that sometimes, life is a bit crap.
Next time: an invitation to expat writers to join a Facebook group dedicated to writing about places away from home, Calling Expat Writers.
I feel this. Wise words and thank you for sharing.

Thank you being a voice of reality. I have learned the term “toxic positivity” this week. Yes, there is such a thing as too much positive thinking. I am comforted by your acknowledgment that sometimes life really is crap.
